Encore Signs Agreement With MyFamily.com to Publish Family Tree Maker(R) -- The #1 Selling Genealogy Software Program
Encore and MyFamily.com, Inc. today announced they have signed a licensing agreement to publish the popular genealogy software product Family Tree Maker(R).
Encore, a majority-owned subsidiary of Navarre Corporation (Nasdaq: NAVR), and MyFamily.com, Inc., the leading network for connecting families, today announced they have signed a licensing agreement to publish the popular genealogy software product Family Tree Maker(R). Under this new relationship, Encore will manage sales, distribution and marketing for the product in the retail channels, while MyFamily.com will continue to develop the content and manage its broad range of online products and services directly to consumers.
According to the National Genealogical Society, the New York Times and Time Magazine, genealogy is the second most popular hobby in the U.S., and for the past decade, Family Tree Maker(R) has been the definitive software product for users to discover, document and distribute family findings. Family Tree Maker(R) dominates its product category, commanding a 92% market share among all genealogy software titles with more than five million copies sold.
"As a company dedicated to 3rd party publishing, working with top-notch partners is integral to Encore's long term strategic growth," says Mike Bell, chief executive officer. "When the opportunity to work with MyFamily.com arose, we jumped at it immediately. Family Tree Maker is clearly the standard for genealogy software; the success of the brand and the knowledge and commitment of MyFamily.com makes this a truly exciting proposition."
MyFamily.com is currently putting the finishing touches on Family Tree Maker version 11.2, scheduled to ship later this month. The product will be available in three different versions -- Standard, Deluxe and Collectors Edition. As an added bonus, MyFamily.com will offer a 30-day trial subscription to the U.S. Records Collection on Ancestry.com and a 15-minute consultation session with a family history expert to help users get started.
"We're excited to bring these two strong companies together to better serve consumers and the rapidly growing family history market," said Craig Sherman, chief marketing and revenue officer of MyFamily.com. "Family Tree Maker is an excellent program that brings older and younger generations together in their efforts to share and preserve family history and ultimately discover their unique family stories."
